We have held our classified advertising rates constant since July 2005, the year of Chief Justice John Roberts’ appointment to the Supreme Court and Hurricane Katrina, among other events. Since then costs for printing, paper and postage have steadily risen. During the intervening eight years we have also enhanced our magazine and associated services, redesigning the magazine to make it more engaging, adding “instant” posting of classified ads to our website, and enabling subscribers to receive notice of new classified ad postings via Twitter, Facebook, and RSS feed. Meanwhile, we continue to publish your ads both in print and online for a single price and offer a blind box service for a modest additional charge.
Under these circumstances, we hope you will understand our need to implement a rate increase for classified ads effective January 1, 2014. The new rates will be as follows:
MSBA members: $ 1.50 per word
Nonmembers: $ 2.25 per word
Box Number: $20.00
Minimum charge: $30.00 per ad
Please let us know how we can serve you better in the months and years ahead. Thank you again for your business.

For example, if you would like your ad to run in the July issue, the ad and payment would need to be received on or before June 15th.

We recommend that when advertisers place an ad for “Attorney Wanted”, that they do not put a cap on the years of experience they require for employment. We are concerned with any age discrimination implications. We recommend the ad stating, for example, four plus years’ experience or a minimum of two years’ experience, etc., instead of two to four years experience.
