Child Support Magistrate

The Minnesota Judicial Branch is pleased to announce one half-time Child Support Magistrate Position in the Eighth Judicial District, which includes the counties of Big Stone, Chippewa, Grant, Kandiyohi, Lac Qui Parle, Meeker, Pope, Renville, Stevens, Swift, Traverse, Wilkin and Yellow Medicine. This position performs highly responsible professional legal work adjudicating expedited child support process cases. Child Support Magistrates are appointed by the Chief Judge of the District where the magistrate will primarily serve, subject to confirmation of the Supreme Court. This at will position serves at the pleasure of the judges of the judicial district and is supervised by the Child Support Magistrate Manager. Work assignments are carried out with a substantial degree of discretion and independent judgment within the framework of state laws and rules of procedure applicable to the expedited child support process. This position will be located in Kandiyohi County, but will also hear cases in other locations in the District and may be asked to assist in other judicial districts. Qualified applicants who have not previously passed the magistrate test will be tested on Friday, February 22, 2019 at the Kandiyohi County Courthouse.  Interviews will be held on March 8 at the same location.
