Welcome, new lawyers

On October 26, the Minnesota Supreme Court and the MSBA welcomed 395 new lawyers to the bar in a ceremony at Saint Paul’s RiverCentre. The new lawyers join the ranks of more than 25,000 active licensed attorneys in Minnesota.

Associate Justice G. Barry Anderson led the proceedings of the Court in front of an audience of bar admittees and their families and friends. The ceremony featured remarks by MSBA President Paul Godfrey, John Koneck (Minnesota Board of Law Examiners board member), and Emily Eschweiler (MBLE director). AnnMarie O’Neill, clerk of the appellate courts, administered the attorney’s oath.

Before and after the ceremony, the new lawyers were invited to formally enter their names in the roll book of attorneys, a practice dating back to 1858 that was recently reinstated. The Minnesota State Supreme Court invites all current and former licensed attorneys to sign the roll book if they haven’t yet done so.
