Unbundled Roster project kicks off

Last month over 50 attorneys attended a CLE training session for participants in the new Minnesota Unbundled Roster project. The roster, a joint effort of the MSBA and the Hennepin and Ramsey County bars, will offer attorneys an online platform to connect with clients interested in obtaining limited-scope (aka “unbundled”) legal services. This unique pilot effort will connect clients directly to attorneys while also allowing MSBA staff to evaluate the effectiveness of the services provided.

At the training session, OLPR director Susan Humiston offered important ethical guidance for providing unbundled representation. Karin Ciano, former chair of the Solo/Small Practice Section and director of the Collaborative Community Law Initiative in St. Paul, moderated a panel of practitioners who provided both practical and business insights on incorporating unbundled representation into a law practice. At a reception following the training, attendees had the opportunity to meet each other and ask questions of panelists. The new roster is scheduled to launch in October, accompanied by a public information campaign to promote the website and explain the concept of unbundled practice. The Minnesota Judicial Branch intends to link its new online triage website portal to the roster sometime in 2019, thereby enabling seamless referrals between the two systems. Attorneys may still participate in this project by contacting Steve Marchese at the MSBA (; 612-278-6308).
