Coming this month: Annual legislative preview

The next Minnesota legislative session, beginning in January 2019, will feature a new governor as well as a possible change in leadership in the House. As in every budget year at the Capitol, the MSBA’s first lobbying priority will be to secure adequate funding for the justice system, including the courts, public defenders, and civil legal services.

Every fall, the MSBA considers proposals from its sections and committees for adoption as MSBA legislative positions, and the Council determines two or three additional lobbying priorities for the session. If your section or committee is interested in making a proposal, we invite you to our September 28 legislative preview event, where members will have the opportunity to talk informally with Legislative Committee members about ideas and priorities. Legislative proposals are due October 26.

If you have any questions about the process, please contact the staff liaison for your section or committee or get in touch with Sherri Knuth (; 612-278-6330).
