Associate General Counsel

Job Summary:

Reporting to the General Counsel & Director of Government Relations, this position manages the Legal Department activities; provides day-to-day leadership that supports NJPA’s strategic and tactical legal initiatives; provides effective legal advice, counsel, and support to the organization; oversees the development and administration of shared legal services; and provides support to NJPA’s General Counsel & Director of Government Relations, as required. This includes providing strategic input on departmental budgets and individual performance metrics aligned with NJPA’s strategic framework and goals.

Required Qualifications:

a. Active licensed to practice law in the State of Minnesota
b. Bachelor’s Degree in a related field
c. Juris Doctor from an accredited law school
d. A minimum of five years of experience as a practicing attorney
e. Demonstrated experience in independent decision making
f. Ability to translate complex legal issues for a lay audience
g. Valid MN Driver’s License

Preferred Qualifications:

a. Ten or more years of experience as a practicing attorney
b. In-house legal experience
c. Public sector experience
d. Experience in public procurement and/or government contracting
e. Experience with public employment law and personnel matters
