MSBA comments on bar admission rules change

On January 24, the Supreme Court issued an order on the petition filed by the Board of Law Examiners (BLE) to amend the Rules for Admission to the Bar. The MSBA’s Rules of Professional Conduct Committee drafted comments in response to the proposed amendments that were approved by the MSBA Council and filed by President Robin Wolpert. The MSBA supported the proposed changes to Rule 10 amending the criteria to obtain a house counsel license. We opposed the proposed change to Rule 16 extending the maximum time for conditional admission to the bar from 24 months to 60 months. The Court ordered the amendments as proposed by the BLE, referring the MSBA’s comments to the BLE for consideration.
