The Legal Services Corporation honored five Minnesota pro bono attorneys for their outstanding volunteer service at an awards reception at Dorsey & Whitney on July 17. The winners were Steve Kirsch (Briggs & Morgan), Larry McDowell (Wurst & McDowell), Tom Kramer (Kramer Law Office), Frank Bibeau, and Nora Sandstad (St. Louis County Attorney).
Former Vice President Walter Mondale, MSBA President Mike Unger, and Dorsey & Whitney Managing Partner Ken Cutler spoke at the event.
The Legal Services Corporation—the single largest funder of civil legal services in the country—held its quarterly board of directors meeting in Minneapolis on July 16-17. In addition to the Pro Bono Awards reception, LSC organized panel discussions hosted at the University of St. Thomas Law School. Minnesota Supreme Court Chief Justice Lori Gildea spoke on the “Importance of Access to Justice to the Judiciary” panel.
