When my business clients ask me to review a business transaction with another entity, I run a check on the other organization to be sure that the organization is validly organized and properly credentialed to do business in Minnesota, and that its registration is current. This can save the client lots of trouble down the road.
I also check the Secretary of State’s website periodically to ensure that the name, address and other information about my business clients is correct and current. I am surprised at how often something (particularly an address) needs to be updated. Clients appreciate the effort, and often will hire me to do the necessary updating. Business entity information is available online at: http://online.sos.state.mn.us.
